Image Management

Important notes on images

The same image can be used in multiple places across a site. If the image is modified/removed, the change will be reflected in all locations across the site that pull the image.

Adding Images

The best way to add images is centrally in the WordPress media library. Follow the steps below for adding images to a website.

  1. Login to the back-end of the website.
  2. In the left sidebar select ‘Media’. This is the WordPress Media Library that houses all images (and files) for a site.
  3. Select the ‘Add New’ button at the top of the page.
  4. Select the ‘Select Files’ button. (Note: All sites will have a max upload file size limit listed below this button. Files larger than the limit will fail on upload. If a higher file size limit is required, please contact the MPS Web Team to have it increased.)
  5. Select the file to be uploaded. Once selected, it will be listed as an item in the media library and can be selected wherever images are allowed across the site.

Removing images

The best way to remove images is centrally in the WordPress media library. Follow the steps below for adding images to a website.

  1. Login to the back-end of the website.
  2. In the left sidebar select ‘Media’. This is the WordPress Media Library that houses all images (and files) for a site.
  3. Find the image that will be removed. Select it.
  4. In the bottom right corner of the ‘Attachment Details’ box, select the option to ‘Delete permanently’. If the image is being deleted permanently, confirm in the warning prompt by selecting ‘OK’.

Images & Accessibility

All images require alt text unless decorative. In the case of decorative images, “” is required in the alt text field to validate that the image was review. Empty alt text is not sufficient for AODA content compliance on MacSites.
